BIOGRAPHY

I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica on April 8th.

I studied in the "Conservatorio Castella", a school which emphasizes in art; I studied a little bit of music, theater and art.  I went to "Colegio Tecnico Vocacional de Heredia" where I graduated as an accountant.  After that I went to the University of Costa Rica where I studied statistics.  I also worked in accounting at the National Bank of Costa Rica.

At the age of 23 I decided to enter the Seminary, Seminario Central de Costa Rica, trying to find an answer to my vocational calling; sincerely I thought that my stay in Seminary was going to be short, that is why I only asked for a leave of absence from my job for a year.  But God had a different plan for me and I found out that being a priest was my true vocation.  I was ordained on December 6, 1996, the Feast of St. Nicholas, in San Jose, Costa Rica.

My first experience as a priest was in a rural parish in the province of Cartago.  There, I lived unforgettable experiences with the community.

During my vacations I use to visit a classmate, also a priest that  had been ordained in the Diocese of Monterey, California.  During these visits I began to take an interest in the Catholic Church in the United States, therefore I asked for permission from the Bishop in my Diocese in Costa Rica for three years to come to the USA.  The Diocese of Oakland opened its doors to me in the year 2001 as a parochial vicar.  My first experience was in the "Casa Hispana" in Concord; I was there for approximately 3 months.  Then I was transferred to St. Mary Parish in Walnut Crrek.

The experience in the Diocese of Oakland was very enriching; therefore I decided to stay here permanently.  I was incardinated into the Diocese of Oakland in the year 2005.
