LECTOR

As a Lector we have a responsibility to our God, Community and self to proclaim the Word of God in a manner that opens the richness of  the Bible to those who would hear that word.  That responsibility should be viewed with the sincerest devotion possible, for all of our preparation will help the faithful develop a warm and living love for the scripture and its' message.

We are called to this ministerial action through our traditions and are directed by liturgical documents which our fathers have prayed over and agreed meet the expectations of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lectoring is a Sacred Responsibility.  The presence of Christ in Liturgy is mediated through the Proclamation, Hearing, and Responding to the Word, as well as in the Eucharistic Prayer of Remembrance.

Lectoring is a human ministry.  One need not be so awed by the responsibility that the human elements of warmth, expressions, movement, humor, cheerfulness, interpretation and drama are left in the pew when one steps into the pulpit.  Rather, the lector has the responsibility to bring the Word to life by using all the expressiveness at his or her disposal.
